CSR Asia is a Social Enterprise that works to promote and support corporate social responsibility. It serves as an advocate of sustainable economical, social and environmental development across the Asia Pacific Region.

Development

CSR Asia was founded by Stephen Frost and Richard Welford in 2004 in Hong Kong and opened its second office shortly after in Shenzhen. CSR Asia has undergone expansion since its foundation with offices opening in Singapore (2005), Beijing (2008), and Kuala Lumpur (2008). In 2007 CSR Asia also entered into partnership arrangements in Vietnam and Thailand.

Philosophy

CSR Asia is a Social Enterprise; that is, a business with primarily social objectives whose surpluses are principally reinvested for that purpose in the business or in the community, rather than being driven by the need to maximise profit for shareholders. CSR Asia is a financially sustainable organisation that is able to survive in the market, without relying on donors or funding. Its principal sources of funding are the strategic partners, training and conferences, advisory services to companies and advertising.

The organisation bases its work on the fact that stakeholders are increasingly holding companies accountable for their activities. Reporting on corporate social responsibility strategies and initiatives is believed to be an essential part of business communications and corporate transparency.

CSR Asia therefore builds capacity and promotes awareness of CSR through several services such as information through the daily blog and "CSR Asia Weekly", raising awareness and sharing best practice through an annual "CSR Asia Summit" [http://www.csr-asia.com/summit08/] and regular training events.
