The Schulman family (also written Schulmann, Shulman, Sholman, Scholman and Koulumies) is a family of
Baltic German noble origin first mentioned in 1495 on the island of Ösel.Their reputed origins lie in
East Frisia : the Schul- element of the name apparently originates from the German word "Schole" (meaning "shoal").The elder branch of the family resided in
Estonia till 1939 when they resettled in theWartegau in Germany. AfterWorld War II the few still remaining resettled inGermany andCanada . There are five members of this branch in Germany and eleven in Canada. Best known member of this branch isNik von Schulmann , Director of Production and Operations forPatrick Roberge Productions .A branch of the family, now the most numerous, became Swedish nobility in
Finland . One part of the family changed the name to Koulumies during World War II. Finish television journalistJyrki Koulumies is the best known member of the family.Other branches now extinct included one in Sweden and one
