1954 , The Troubadour at 263-267 Old Brompton Road inEarls Court is one of the last 1950s coffee houses inLondon , with a club room in the cellar famous as one of the primary venues of the British folk revival in the late 1950s and 1960s.Jimi Hendrix ,Joni Mitchell ,Bob Dylan ,Paul Simon ,Elton John andElvis Costello all played here early in their careers. The club was one of several London coffee house venues at which notable musicians played; others includedLes Cousins andBunjies . The Troubadour's influence was felt around the U.K. and theBristol Troubadour Club fulfilled a similar role in the west ofEngland , but with a more bluesy feel. It is a tribute to the club thatThe Troubadour , much larger but with a similar ethos, was opened inLos Angeles ,California in 1957 and continues to this day. The London Troubadour Club continues to host live music and poetry, mainly by performers who, in the club's tradition, write their own material; more recent artists to pass through the club includeJamie T ,Jack Peñate ,The Dead 60s ,Paulo Nutini andMorcheeba . the room has been doubled in size but is still an intimate venue of just 120 seats.
