Bejgli

Bejgli called Hungarian Walnut Roll (Diósbeigli) [June Meyers Authentic Hungarian Heirloon Recipes Cookbook] and Poppy seeds Roll (Mákosbejgli) [June Meyers Authentic Hungarian Heirloon Recipes Cookbook] . Bejgli is a traditional cake of the Hungarian cuisine, originating from the Armenian cuisine, consumed in Hungary at Christmas time and for Easter. It has only two types, with walnut or poppy seed filling. The dough is made of yeast, flour, egg yolk and butter. The poppy seed filling contains ground poppy seeds, raisins, rum and vanilla, the Walnut Roll filling contains raisins, rum, lemon rind and chopped walnuts. The dough is rolled out into a thick plate. The filling is spread over the dough and rolled into an even cylinder or alog, brused with the egg yolk and baked in the owen.
