M S Patel Institute of Management Studies, popularly known as FMS-Baroda, was established in 1984 to make a distinct contribution to advanced management education and research in the city of Vadodara. It's run by the Maharaja Sayajirao University. The courses are approved by All India Council for Technical Education. During 1995, it increased its intake from 30 to 40 for 2-year full time (regular) MBA, and in 1997 introduced a 3-Year MBA Evening Programme. The institute is rated among top 30 Indian B-Schools with A+ grade, positioning itself among top 5 management institutes run by Universities, by Business India magazine in 2000, and also appreciated by Business Today magazine in 2000, securing position among top 10 B-schools on certain parameters. Currently, the institute is ranked fourth all over India among University run Business Schools by [http://www.indiabschools.com/O_C_Survey07/top10_uni_dept.htm Outlook-C Fore Survey 2007] .

Its motto is "Those who build beneath the stars build too low". It's based on a poem of famous Urdu poet Muhammad Iqbal, "Sitaro se age jahan aur bhi hai"." Which means "the world is beyond the stars".

The institute offers the specialization in Marketing, Finance, Human Resource Management and Information Systems.

Admission process

The institute had its own Entrance Test till Sep-2001. It used to receive around 1700-2400 applications for the intake seats of 40 of regular program. Which gives phenomenal 60:1 applications to seat ratio, which is at par to the best institutes of India. It is one of the most important parameter, why the institute is the best in its own category. From May-2002 onwards it came under the purview of Gujarat Common Entrance Test(GCET). The GCET is conducted by the Group of Universities of Gujarat, is a competitive test conducted for admission to around 4000 seats of MBA. For programs beginning in Aug-Sep 2008, the GCET is conducted by Sardar Patel University of Vallabh Vidya Nagar/Anand. The Current GCET admission process have Written Test, Group Discussion and Personal Interview.
