Washington Avenue, Bronx

Situated in what is today The Bronx, New York, Washington Avenue was named after the alleged main central escape route of General George Washington and his Continental Army out of colonial New York during the invasion of the Royal British forces and Hessian mercernary army during the American Revolutionary War. The avenue runs from the South Bronx, ending North at Fordham Road, near Fordham Plaza and Fordham University.
