British Nepali (or Nepali British) people are citizens or full time residents of the United Kingdom whose ethnic origins lie fully or partially in the South Asian nation of Nepal.

History

From the first quarter of the 19th century, Gurkhas from Nepal had served under the British. From there the gurkha soldier's family lived in UK. Some of the Nepali people came to study in UK and settled here. According to the 2001 UK Census, 5,943 Nepali born people were residing in the UK (the 92nd most common nation for British citizens behind Saint Kitts and Nevis, but ahead of Angola). British Nepalis were likely to either respond to Other Asian in the UK Census (with the British definition of Asian's being people originating in South Asia, including Nepal). It is unknown how many British people are of Nepali descent, as no census has allowed British born people to state their ethnic origins as Nepali.
