Alan Bateman is the Deputy Mayor of Holmdel Township, elected to the Holmdel Township Committee in 2005. Prior to that, Bateman served as the chairman of the Holmdel Republican Organization from 2002 to 2005.

Bateman has spent over 20 years in both hospital administration and business consulting. He has helped companies and organizations reduce spending and increase efficiency through new training techniques, technology, and strategic planning.
Campaign for U.S. Congress
Bateman started his campaign in April, quickly gaining the support of the Republican organizations in all five counties in the Congressional District: Monmouth County, Middlesex County, Somerset County, Mercer County and Hunterdon County.
Bateman won an uncontested primary on
June 3 ,2008 .The Republican nominee against incumbent
Rush Holt , Bateman intends to run a low-cost, grassroots campaign by teaming up with local and county candidates down-ticket on the ballot in November. He hopes to gain support from individuals all the way up to national party leadership.On July 31, Bateman received key support from House Minority Leader
