The Bank of the Southwest Tower was a building that was to be built in Houston, Texas, but was cancelled due to economic issues. If it had been built, it would have been the second tallest building in the world, just barely behind Chicago's Sears Tower. The design created by architect Helmut Jahn of Murphy/Jahn, Inc. Architects was the winner of a design competition in 1982. In 1986, the Southwest Tower (no relation or similarity) was demolished to make room for the Bank of the Southwest Tower. It is best known for heavily influencing the designs of many skyscrapers later designed by Jahn and his firm including One Liberty Place and Two Liberty Place in Philadelphia.
