Wildorado, Texas

Wildorado is an unincorporated community in southeastern Oldham County, Texas, United States, along the Canadian River. It lies along FM 809 just south of Interstate 40, east of the city of Vega, the county seat of Oldham County. [Rand McNally. "The Road Atlas '08." Chicago: Rand McNally, 2008, p. 98.] Its elevation is 3,921 feet (1,195 m), and it is located at coor dms|35|12|34|N|102|12|2|W|city (35.2094976, -102.2004766). Named for the nearby Wildorado Creek, the community was founded as a railway town along the Chicago, Rock Island and Gulf Railroad in 1900. The community received its post office in 1904, and other developments soon followed: bank and hotel by 1908, newspaper in 1909, and telephone lines by 1915.
