Gary Baseman (born 1960) is an
artist , particularly known as anillustrator andcartoonist , who lives and works inLos Angeles ,California . Baseman received a degree,Phi Beta Kappa , fromUCLA in 1982. He has since worked as afine art ist,commercial art ist,editorial artist, and as atelevision andfilm art director and producer of animation.His work is distinguished by big-eyed characters in slapstick situations and vivid use of colour. Warner Brothers cartoon s, vintage American comic strips,Hieronymus Bosch ,Day of the Dead artifacts, andJapan esepop art . Baseman's work is part of the permanent collections of the National Portrait Gallery inWashington, D.C. and the Museum of Modern Art inRome . As an illustrator, his corporate clients includeGatorade ,Mercedes-Benz , and Nike. He also created the art for the popularboard game Cranium, as well as the cover and packaging art for the 2007 album "The Crumbling Empire Of White People" byMr. Smolin .Baseman is a creator and an
executive producer of theanimated television series for ABC/Disney called "Teacher's Pet", which won theEmmy award for Best Daytime Animated series three times (two years consecutively), as well as aBAFTA for best International Children's Programming.
