The Rail Safety Inspection Office is an independent state organ which investigates rail accidents and incidents and performs state supervision of the whole Czech rail system. The Office employs 61 people in five offices across the Czech Republic based in Ostrava, Brno, Praha, Plzeň and České Budějovice. The Office was established on 1 January 2003 in compliance with Act No. 77/2002, and was among the first of its kind in Europe.
The Office mission:
- Investigation of the causes of accidents and incidents of both domestic and foreign operators within the Czech rail system
- Performing state supervision in rail-related matters of all rail infrastructure and transport operators.
