- Hornedo Middle School
Hornedo Middle School is a middle school located in northwest El Paso, TX. It currently houses eighth grade students and is also the Franklin Ninth Grade Center. Although the ninth grade students are at the Hornedo campus, they are actually part of
Franklin High School (El Paso, TX) . The school mascot is the Tornado and the school colors are navy, white, and silver. The building was constructed from 1992 to 1993 to originally house Franklin High School's freshman and opening in August that year. In 1994 Franklin moved to a larger building on the same property and Hornedo was opened in August 1994 for the 1994-1995 school year housing sixth, seventh, and eighth graders. In early 2007, the El Paso Independent School District chose to make Hornedo an eight and ninth grade school. In turn, the neighboring high school, Franklin High School, will house only tenth to twelfth grade students. The upcoming sixth and seventh grade students are going to attend a newly built school approximately two and a half miles north of Hornedo. The new school is named Brown Middle School. The mascot and school colors were chosen by sixth graders at Hornedo and fifth graders from nearby elementary schools. This change took place in the beginning of the 2007-2008 school year.
