2/229th Avn Regt "Flying Tigers"

The 2/229th Avn Regt "Flying Tigers" is the only U.S. Army Attack Helicopter unit in history to have captured enemy troops. During Desert Storm the 2/229th Avn Regt captured 476 enemy combatants. "The number of prisoners (476) is probably a record for EPWs captured by a helicopter unit." ["From Hot Air to Hellfire, The History of Army Attack Aviation" by James W. Bradin] The unit flew AH-64 Apache attack helicopters and was based out of Fort Rucker, Alabama.
