Critics on all coasts have given Sever Your Ties much praise for this comedic switch as well as fans. In the 2008 edition of
Rolling Stones ' Comedy magazine, Sever Your Ties came in #4 for best comedy/music switch.cite web |url=http://www.jesusfreakhideout.com/artists/SeverYourTies.asp |title=Sever Your Ties Discography |publisher=Jesus Freak Hideout |accessdate=2008-08-08] "First Sign of Light EP" was released onNovember 4 ,2006 .cite web |url=http://www.jesusfreakhideout.com/cdreviews/FirstSignOfLightEP.asp |title=Sever Your Ties, "First Sign Of Light EP" Review |accessdate=2008-08-08 |publisher=Jesus Freak Hideout ]With help from their manager and fellow comedian, Dave "Sparkplug," the band is currently working on their comedic album debut, "Live.Love.Laugh." Some controversy now surrounds the band with its choice of "Sparkplug" whos racy performances include, lighting himself on fire while playing an over sized trumpet, which lead to his 1997 arrest in Keybank, VT. Eye witness accounts say while preforming at The Funny Shop in Cuyahoga Falls, OH, on January 17th 2003, Sparkplug reportedly burned a stack of over sized playing cards while free-style rapping his famous jokes, which also lead to his arrest. Sparkplug, who is African American, is most famous for dressing up in a
Geisha style dress with a blonde wig, eyebrows and goatee. As this character, he sings the theme to "Friends " while playing an over sized banjo, on fire."Safety in the Sea"
