T G Millner Field

The T G Millner Field is the northwestern Sydney suburb of Marsfield and is the official ground of Eastwood Rugby Club, a rugby union team that competes in the Shute Shield competition.

History

In 1947, after Eastwood's elevation to the Sydney Senior Competition the club purchased seven and a half acres of land a mile and a half north-east of Eastwood railway station Station. At the time sporting clubs only had access to fields owned and maintained by suburban councils and this purchase was made possible by the benefaction of Colonel Tom Millner MC VD. Eastwood Rugby Club is still the only Sydney first division club to own its home ground outright. The clubhouse and oval were originally built by volunteers and after 1963, and the development of dressing rooms, all home games were played at Marsfield. Additional land was bought in 1967 increasing the site to more than sixteen acres. At present values property is woth in excess of $20 million. Three full sized playing fields, which have been floodlit since 1969, are now available for games and training. The current grandstand was also constructed in 1969.
