Kaare Aksnes

Kaare Aksnes (Born March 25 1938 in Kvam in Hardanger) is a professor at the Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics at the University of Oslo.

He took his master's degree in astronomy at the University of Oslo in 1963, and served his compulsory military service at the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (FFI). He tok a doctor's degree at Yale University in 1969, and completed a longer time of research at American universities and institutions, especially at Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

His doctor's degree is today a standard work within estimating the course of planets, moons, meteors, comets and artifical sounds. His works is among other things used by NASA's Voyager sounds to Jupiter, and he received the NASA Group Achivement Award for his work.

He has worked in Norway since 1978, first at the FFI, afterwards at the University of Tromsø. The asteriod 2067 Aksnes is named after Aksnes. December 5 2006 he received the HM The King's Medal of Merit in gold for his scientific achievements through a long scientist career within astronomy.
