- Kaare Aksnes
Kaare Aksnes (Born
March 25 1938 inKvam inHardanger ) is aprofessor at the Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics at theUniversity of Oslo .He took his master's degree in
astronomy at the University of Oslo in1963 , and served hiscompulsory military service at theNorwegian Defence Research Establishment (FFI). He tok a doctor's degree atYale University in 1969, and completed a longer time of research at American universities and institutions, especially atHarvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics inCambridge, Massachusetts .His doctor's degree is today a standard work within estimating the course of
planet s, moons,meteor s,comet s and artifical sounds. His works is among other things used byNASA 's Voyager sounds toJupiter , and he received theNASA Group Achivement Award for his work.He has worked in
Norway since 1978, first at the FFI, afterwards at theUniversity of Tromsø . The asteriod2067 Aksnes is named after Aksnes.December 5 2006 he received theHM The King's Medal of Merit in gold for his scientific achievements through a long scientist career within astronomy.
