Professor Edgar Harry Brookes (
4 February 1897 –1979) was a former South AfricanLiberal senator and formerSouth Africa n representative to theLeague of Nations .Biography
Brookes was born in
Smethwick , England in 1879 but attendedMaritzburg College inKwaZulu-Natal where he matriculated in 1911. He attended theUniversity of South Africa and theLondon School of Economics .Some of his early works are noted for stressing the advantages of separate development of the races in South Africa, but it is noted that his views changed during his life. Brooks was involved with the South African Institute for Race Relations in the 1920s.
