The Detroit Lions Television Network

The Detroit Lions Television Network

The Detroit Lions Television Network is a network of television stations that broadcast the NFL's Detroit Lions pre-season games, as well as the syndicated weekly show "The Ford Lions Report" during the regular season. Every market in Michigan has an affiliate, so all Lions fans in Michigan can watch it no matter where they live.

The stations in the network and the areas they serve are:

*WWJ-TV - CBS 62 - Metro Detroit (flagship station)
*WNEM-TV - CBS 5 - Flint / Tri-Cities
*WXMI-TV - FOX 17 - Grand Rapids / Kalamazoo
*WFQX-TV - FOX 33 - Cadillac / Traverse City / Sault Ste. Marie
*WSYM-TV - FOX 47 - Lansing / Jackson
*WJMN-TV - CBS 3 - Escanaba / Marquette / Houghton "(satellite of WFRV-TV; however, only WJMN shows Lions programming)"

Pre-season Games

The network broadcasts all pre-season games. The announcers are Gus Johnson on play-by-play and Desmond Howard with color commentary. Matt Shepard and Charlie Sanders host the pre-game show (which is only shown on the flagship station WWJ-TV) and halftime show and provide sideline reports. Matt Shepard is also the backup play-by-play announcer. Because of the NFL local television blackout policy, Lions home games that do not sell out 72 hours before the game are not permitted to be broadcasted live in the home team's market, so they are broadcasted on tape delay, even on the flagship station. However, all Lions road games are broadcasted live.

The Ford Lions Report

During the regular season, the stations that make up the network carry "The Ford Lions Report", hosted by Matt Shepard and featuring Lions wide receiver Roy Williams. It is a half-hour weekly syndicated show that contains behind-the-scenes news, interviews with Lions players and personnel and special features related to the Lions. Roy Williams has a segment called “Rappin with Roy” featuring practice and locker room footage. Other portions of the program include a weekly segment with Head Coach Rod Marinelli and feature stories throughout the season by reporter Lauren Sanders. It is also available for download on The Detroit Lions' Official Website for those unable to receive any of the channels that carry it.
