History
After attending the San Francisco Institute Of Arts, Momoko became a member of the Bangkok-based international electroclash band Futon (as Momoko Futon), with whom she recorded three albums before her departure in 2006.
In 2007, and now known as Momokomotion, she recorded her first solo album, Punk In A Coma, an album of original compositions plus a ska version of the Nirvana song All Apologies for which she wrote Japanese lyrics. Japanese also features in some of her other songs, though she mainly writes in English. As well as writing the songs, she produced and arranged the album and played most of the instruments.
At this time she also formed the Momokomotion band, which has played at several notable events in Thailand, including the 2007 Fat Festival in Bangkok. The lineup has included Tintin Cooper and Anna Voronoff, both performers and artists in their own right, and the band’s repertoire features artistic performance and dance as well as music.
In late 2007, Momoko Ueda and guitarist-artist Tintin Cooper took part in Tokyo Wonder Site's 'Creator in Residence' scheme in Shibuya, Tokyo while also performing for Tokyo DAF (Digital Arts Festival) in an art installation created by Bangkok-based design team Duckunit. Both artists lived together in a bohemian house called Cassette Cafe in Bangkok, renowned for wild parties and makeshift exhibitions, including international artists such as Adham Faramawy and Bea Camacho. A popular resident of the house, Kuro-jung, an orange pomeranian dog even had his own Myspace page. Cassette Cafe remains listed in many Japanese guide books until this day, although the house has now become design group Duckunit's new office.
In January 2008, Momokomotion was the resident artist at Bangkok’s ultra-chic “Bed Supperclub”. Her next project was "Walk On The Wild Side", a musical tribute to Lou Reed and The Velvet Underground performed with fellow indie artist Gene Mahasamut. The show premiered at The Lam Morrison House Of Rock, Pattaya, Thailand in March 2008 and an album of these songs is planned for release in the near future. An album of Momokomotion remixes is also due for release in 2009.
Momokomotion is currently based in Tokyo and performing with a new lineup.
