"Sister, Sister" is an American television sitcom about twin girls (Tia and Tamera Mowry), separated and adopted at birth, who one day come face-to-face after 14 years apart. The series premiered during the 1993-94 season on ABC, briefly canceled after the 1994-95 season; but The WB renewed the show for the 1995-96 season, continuing until May 23, 1999. "Sister, Sister" was a de Passe Entertainment Productions and Paramount Television presentation.

Premise

In the pilot, the twins are reunited during a chance encounter shopping at the mall with their adoptive parents. Tia Landry was the studious twin from inner-city Detroit, where her mother Lisa worked as a seamstress; Tamera Campbell was the boy-crazy twin from the suburbs, where her father Ray owned a limousine service. After their unexpected encounter in the department store, Ray reluctantly allowed Tia and Lisa to move in the house because they were going to move. The girls' neighbor was Roger Evans (Marques Houston), an annoying teenager who was infatuated with both of them. Roger evolved from a nerdy stalker to a handsome gentleman. In the final season when the girls go off to college, Roger disappears from the series without any explanation. Though the plot mainly focuses on the twins' capers, eg: swapping places and pretending to be each other, it is also very focused on the relationship and lives of their parents Ray and Lisa.

By the 1996-1997 season, Tia and Tamera straightened their hair and abandoned their conservative wardrobe from the first three seasons for a new look. Also, Ray and Lisa began a romance in Season 4, which was short-lived. There were hints to a possible romance between the two in earlier episodes. Example: "The Concert" from Season 1, in which Lisa and Ray inadvertently kissed.

A frequent sub-plot was the twins searching for, and eventually finding, their biological parents - an African-American woman, Racelle Gavin, who died after child birth, and a Caucasian man, Matt Sullivan, who has looked for them their whole lives; since they were separated, it was even harder to find them. In real life, Tia and Tamera Mowry are also bi-racial.

In the 1997-1998 season, Tia started dating Tyreke Scott (RonReaco Lee), a reformed street kid who worked as a mechanic for Ray, and Jordan Bennett (Deon Richmond) became Tamera's boyfriend. Roger was suddenly dropped from the cast after a few episodes; this was explained as Roger getting a new romantic interest and Tia, Tamera, and their friends begin attending classes at the University of Michigan.

The final season showed the twins entering university with their boyfriends and their best friend Diavian. The girls were ultimately reunited with their birth father, and Lisa married her boyfriend Victor in the final episode. Roger also made one last appearance in the last episode, singing at Lisa's wedding.

Characters

Major characters

*Tia LandryPortrayed by Tia Mowry, is an All-American bookworm. At the top of her class in high school, she had aspirations to go to Harvard, but was rejected, and attended Michigan instead. Tia's main boyfriend is Ray's mechanic, Tyreke, who later joins and becomes a police escort at her college.

*Tamera Campbell Portrayed by Tamera Mowry, is Tia's polar opposite, in terms of personality. She is highly impulsive, and less intellectual than her sister, and a big fan of Coolio and Hush Puppies shoe brand. She can be smart when she wants to, but usually uses 'The Twin Thing' (a frequently-invoked plot mechanism, where the twins pretend to be each other) to pass difficult tests. Her main boyfriend is Jordan, who attends college with her.

*Lisa Landry-Sims Portrayed by Jackée Harry, is a fashion designer by trade. She is the adoptive mother of Tia, though she is more aligned with Tamera's personality, sometimes even being more impulsive, lustful, and reckless than her daughter's twin. She is prone to bouts of depression, during which she consumes high quantities of food. Lisa is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta sorority. She marries Victor Sims in the finale.

*Ray CampbellPortrayed by Tim Reid, is diametrically opposed to Lisa and Tamera's tendencies. A widower who runs a limousine service, he is highly conservative and level-headed. He is the adoptive father of Tamera. He is more successful in his business than he is in his romantic life, however, and his relationships with women are often short-lived. He briefly dated Lisa. Ray is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity

*Roger Evans (1994-1998)Portrayed by Marques Houston, was Tia and Tamera's annoying neighbor. Initially infatuated with Tamera, he was thrilled when he discovered that she had a twin sister, and frequently attempted to date either one of them. His advances were ill-received, however, and the repeated chorus by the various members of the household was "Go home, Roger!" Roger eventually matures into the twins' confidante, and at some points even becomes a love interest for a short amount of time. Marques was also a member of the R&B group Immature. In the final season, Roger was removed from the series without any explanation. He did appear in the final episode as a special guest at Lisa's wedding.

*Tyreke Scott (1998-1999)Portrayed by RonReaco Lee, he is Tia's boyfriend. A high school drop-out, after receiving his GED, he is permitted to graduate with the girls and Jordan, and later attends and gets a job at the college they attend. He appears in Seasons 5 and 6.

*Jordan Bennett (1998-1999)Portrayed by Deon Richmond, is Tamera's boyfriend. He goes to college with the girls. He is goofy at times, and is just as impulsive as Tamera. He can be sexist at times, as well as Tamera can be toward men. He appears in Seasons 5 and 6.

Minor characters

Tia and Tamera's real-life brother, Tahj Mowry, has appeared in three episodes of the series. He played Tia's cousin, Tahj, in "Get a Job", a kid visiting a "Mall Santa" in "Christmas", and appeared in a cross-over role in "Child's Play", in which he played T.J. Henderson, his character from fellow WB sitcom "Smart Guy".

Diavian Johnson the twins' best friend in the final seasons (1996-1999). Portrayed by [http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0276185/ Alexis Fields]

Victor Sims Ray's old frat buddy who later becomes Lisa's love interest and later husband and Tia's step-father in the final season of the show. Their wedding takes place in the Series Finale.

Rhonda Coley the popular girl in Tia and Tamera's high school who always made fun of Tia and Tamera, especially their fashion choices. Rhonda was portrayed by Bianca Lawson in seasons 2 & 3.

Denise Tia and Tamera's second best friend. She was also one of their few white friends. She was played by Anna Slotky in the shows second and third season.

Sarah Tia and Tamera's first best friend. She was played by Brittany Murphy throughout season one and returned only once in season 2.

In the UK, "Sister, Sister" was aired on Nickelodeon, and on Channel 4 between 1995 and 2000 as the channel had the terrestrial rights to the show. Currently, it airs on Nickelodeon on Sky and Virgin Media at 8pm, every night. It also airs on RTÉ Two in Ireland.

Theme Song

The series' theme song was written and composed by Tim Heintz, Randy Petersen and Kevin Quinn. Three versions of the original theme song were used from April 1994 to May 1997.

A new version of the show's theme was used starting in Season 5, composed by Heintz, Petersen, Quinn and Kurt Farquhar, who composed the music for the series, save for Season 3, when the music was composed by Paul A. Kreiling, and performed by Tia and Tamera Mowry.

Overall, there were five different versions of the intro. The only time the intro remained the exact same was between Seasons 3 and 4, which is when the girls got their new look as well, making the intro outdated for season 4.
