Football League Trophy 2008–09

The Football League Trophy 2008–09, known as the Johnstone's Paint Trophy 2008–09 for sponsorship reasons, will be the 25th Football League Trophy, a knockout competition for English football clubs in Leagues One and Two.

The format will be the same as in previous seasons and will include a four-region first round (North-West, North-East, South-West, South-East), narrowing to a two-region tournament (North, South) for four further knock-out rounds and a final between the two region winners.

First Round

The First Round was held the week commencing 1 September 2008. The teams granted byes were drawn, with the other matches drawn on 16 August 2008 on morning football show Soccer AM.

Area quarter-finals

The Area quarter-finals will be held the week commencing 24 November 2008. The draw will be held 11 October 2008.

Area semi-finals

The Area semi-finals will be held the week commencing 15 December 2008. The draw will be held 29 November 2008.

Area Finals

The Area finals (which serve as the semi-finals for the whole competition) are contested over two legs, home and away. The first leg will be played in the week commencing 19 January 2009; the second leg will be played in the week commencing 16 February 2009.

Final

The final will be held on 5 April 2009 at Wembley Stadium.
