bomber base inWorld War II . The airfield is now used by BurnGliding Club, but may in the future be developed as the site of theEuropean Spallation Source (ESS), a particle accelerator facility to generateneutron s byspallation . Outline planning permission for the ESS was conditionally granted by Selby District Council on14 September ,2005 .External links
