History

In 1932, from his small apartment in Breslau, Germany, Kurt Lindenberg started a family business that was the beginning of the LINDY group. [ [http://www.lindy.co.uk/companyHistory.html LINDY company history] ]

Closed down during the Second World War, LINDY re-opened in 1947 in the Lindenberg’s new home town of Mannheim. The business expanded from the petrol lamps and simple electrical appliances that it had sold in the early days, to follow the consumer demand for radios and televisions with the introduction of KUBA radio and TV furniture into the LINDY range.

The sixties marked the beginning of a change in LINDY’s product range with the introduction of self-assemble radios and amplifiers from Danish manufacturer, Josty. This side of the business proved very popular and by 1970 LINDY sold mainly electronic components and equipment.

The LINDY logo, which is still used in similar form today, was created in the mid-seventies for the launch of a range of electronic games in conjunction with Japanese company, Gakken. As the home computer market grew in the eighties, LINDY expanded its range once again and started to offer its customers computer connectivity equipment such as cables. The next decade saw a phase of international expansion with offices opened in the UK, France, Italy and Switzerland.

LINDY Electronics in the 21st Century

At the turn of the century LINDY UK had outgrown its premises and work began on a new office and warehouse facility [ [http://www.teesvalley-jsu.gov.uk/old/reports/majdev/mda0901.pdf UK Government report] ] in Stockton-on-Tees that would help the company grow and establish its International headquarters. [ [http://archive.darlingtonandstocktontimes.co.uk/2000/11/7/187491.html Darlington Times local newspaper report] ] The group also continued expanding worldwide, opening offices in Australia, Eire and the USA. From a small business run from Kurt Lindenberg’s apartment in 1932, LINDY has grown into a multi-national group of independent companies. Its product range covers the whole spectrum of computer and audio-visual connectivity products, from a simple USB cable and webcams [ [http://shopping.guardian.co.uk/gadgets/story/0,,2018745,00.html Guardian national newspaper review] ] to the very latest HDMI switches.
