Pyotr (Cheshuin) Tayozhny ( _ru. Таёжный (Чешуин), Пётр Иванович) (1887 - 1952),
Russia n sculptor. Studied at the Artistic Industrial School inYekaterinburg together with his close friend, sculptorIvan Shadr . Later he worked with Faberge in Moscow. Discouraged by the turmoil that followed the 1917October revolution , he left Moscow with his wife and two daughters and settled for several years in the Altay region. His pseyudanym "Tayozhny" comes from those rural years, it originates from the wordtaiga . In the 1920s, after returning to the capital, Pyotr Tayozhny together with Shadr was one of the authors of the first designs of theorder of Lenin , the highestSoviet award. He later specialised inminiature pieces for book covers which includedBas-relief s of Soviet leaders, includingJoseph Stalin and writers, includingAleksandr Pushkin ,Maksim Gorky ,Gustave Flaubert , as well asmedal s, one of them depictingVladimir Lenin lying in state. The medal is now a collector's item and a good example of the 1920sSoviet culturalpropaganda .
