The Puddings were a 4 member New Zealand rock band, debuting in the early 1980s with their hit single "Make it Fake", reaching to number 14 on the charts. The song referred to the growing number of manufactured pop bands springing up around the world at the time. The song was written by the band's lead singer, Jeff White. The band followed with a second single a few years later, but it was nowhere near as popular as the first. The band broke apart after the drummer, Alfred Jackson, started abusing cocaine. White went on to pursue a solo career, but during recording he was killed in a car accident.

The band's manager, Jordan Powers, was later arrested in relation to the accident; Powers had leaked brake fluid from White's car, so that he could claim the royalties on White's songs.
