(Stephen Moten (born in Massachusetts) is an American
basketball player for theLamar Sea Hawks of theNJCAA in Port Arthur,Texas. He may be best known for his extreme"HOPS". He was nick named by hisAAU coach "High Flya" for his dunking abilities, even though he only stands 6'4".High School
Moten attended Clifton J. Ozen High School in Beaumont, Texas and graduated in 2008. While in high school, Moten led the Panther basketball team to four consecutive District Championships, one State Game appearance, and amassed numerous accolades.
He has been the "Big Man" on this team since he was a Freshman and got to play on the Varsity Team. Throughout the four years Moten has averaged 13.7 ppg, 9.6 rpg, and 2.2 apg. During his senior year Mr. Moten was a force to be reckon with. He brought the Panthers all the way to the Regional Finals until they lost to Houston Yates. While in the Playoffs Moten was known as the "Clean Up Man" for his clutch efforts in the last seconds of games. In three of five games he scored the winning basket to send the Panthers one step forward to a Championship.
College
Moten was one of three All-District 22-4A student-athletes from Beaumont that recently signed letters-of-intent to play basketball for
Lamar State College-Port Arthur in the 2008-09 season. Ozen High School teammatesJacoby Joseph a 6-6 power forward,and Stephen Moten a 6-4 forward earned First and Second Team All-District honors, respectively. Lamar State head coachJerre Cole said these recruits will help the Seahawks as they move from the non-scholarship Division IIIMetro Athletic Conference to full-scholarship Division I competition in Region XIV, which is considered to be one of the toughest Junior College Conferences in the nation. Cole said, "Stephen is a prototypical Junior College power forward. He is undersized, but plays much bigger than 6-4.
