Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram

Also known DPS RK Puram or DPS RKP. A private high-school run by the Delhi Public School Society in Rama Krishna Puram, New Delhi, India. It was found in the year 1972 and today is considered the most prestigious school of India. Padama Bhushan Dr. (Mrs.) Shyama Chona is the present principal of the school.

History and Profile

DPS Mathura Road was the only DPS school till 1972, when DPS RK Puram was established by Mr. R. S. Lugani. He also served as its first branch principal. DPS RKP is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Indian Public Schools' Conference (IPSC) and the National Progressive Schools' Conference (NPSC). The school emphasises on its motto - "Service before Self".

The school soon become independent of its parent, and established its junior wings in East of Kailash in 1975 and Vasant Vihar in 1986.

Current principal Dr. Shyama Chona took over her charge as the second principal in 1991.

Today it stands as a co-educational, day-cum-boarding school with an approximate strength of 9,500 students across its three campuses. It has played pivotal roles in establishing other school such as DPS Vasant Kunj, DPS Faridabad and DPS Manali at the national level, and in promoting three schools abroad in Kuwait, Nepal and Indonesia.

Anubhav Shiksha Kendra - an afternoon non-profit school for slum children.

Open Learning School

Tamanna - A school for education of mentally challenged and blinds.

Reputation

The school is known for its students, who join the school in grade 11. The school lays special significance towards development of arts and talents. It is consistently giving the highest grades in national level examinations, and in 2007 was adjudged "The Best School of India".Fact|date=September 2008

DPS RKP is known for its high success rates of foreign admissions also. The school counsellor Mrs. Mamta Sharma has helped gather admissions for some 150 students every year, to universities in USA, UK, Singapore, Australia, France, Germany, Switzerland and Japan. In year 2008, successful admissions were made to elite colleges such as MIT, Princeton, LSE, etc.
