- Southroads Mall
Southroads Mall was a enclosed shopping mall at 1001 Fort Crook Road in
Bellevue, Nebraska . Developed by the owners of Omaha's Brandeis department store, Southroads opened in 1966 with Brandeis andJCPenney as anchors and 500,000 square feet of retail space, modeled after Omaha's Crossroads Mall (also developed by Brandeis). ["Malls at a crossroads J.C. Penney's impending exit from Southroads is seen as part of a national shift in consumers' preferences toward easier-access strip mall," "Omaha World-Herald", August 9, 2003.] Brandeis was purchased byYounkers in 1988, and the store was closed in 1996. Penney's converted its store to a clearance center in 1999 and closed it in 2003. ["J.C. Ameritrade began leasing space at the mall in 1998, eventually taking over the former Brandeis/Younkers space.PayPal also leases office space there.
