Gillespie [1876-1948] and his brother Walter Benson Gillespie [1878-1971] , both of whom owned the land and operated adjacent farms at that intersection. They were the grandsons of 1852 Missouri to Oregon pioneer minister Rev. Jacob E. Gillespie [1809-1898] and the sons of two 1852 Missouri to Oregon settlers Marcellus Melanthon Gillespie [1846-1922] and Damaris Tandy (Benson) Gillespie [1846-1926] .
