Dr. V. N. Bedekar Institute of Management Studies

Dr. V. N. Bedekar Institute of Management Studies was established in 1935 and it took up the national and humanitarian cause of meeting the urge of young and old, unprivileged to have access to primary and secondary education.

VPM as on today is a pioneer educational institute in Thane, enthusiastically and zealously catering to the basic needs of education to nearly 14,000 students everyday, across faculties in Arts , Commerce, Science, Law, Polytechnic and Management Studies.

The Management Institute is 33 years old and was established on 3 July 1973. It was then named as Department of Management Studies. It was a sapling planted by Dr. V.N. Bedekar who had the dreams of making Thane a hub of management education par excellence.

Dr. V.V. Bedekar fulfilled the dreams of his father Dr. V.N. Bedekar in the academic year 2005-06. His drive and leadership resulted in the institute getting approval from AICTE to conduct the two year full time MMS program. There is a two year full time MSBTE approved PGDBM ( Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management) and PGDPBM (Post Graduate Diploma in Pharmaceutical Business Management) along with proposed other part time diploma programs.

Dr.Guruprasad Murthy (Director of Dr. VNBRIMS)

M.Com, Ph.D., LI.M (Criminal Law); Graduate of International Center for the Advancement of Management Institute (Stanford, USA) He was the Director, Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, University of Mumbai, Also the Principal, R.A. Podar College of Commerce and Economics. He worked for Emirates Airlines, Dubai. An eminent management expert and noted authority in Finance and Accounting, Dr. Murthy is a well known author, research guide, teacher and management consultant to several public and private sector organizations, including the World Bank, all over the World. He is a prolific writer and has several books and research papers to his credit. He has won several national and international awards for his contribution to management from time to time. Teaching Pedagogy:

The teaching pedagogy for the MMS degree course includes a wide variety of teaching/facilitating methods. The learning process will include, inter alia, lectures, group discussions, role-play, case studies, laboratory / computer driven teaching methods, guest lectures, visiting faculty and core faculty. Evaluation of students for internal assessment papers of the MMS degree course will be based on assignments, class participation, group exercises, case studies, presentation of term paper / projects and final examination. Students will have to do field work and also visit Industry to enhance and augment the quality of their learning process. The internal assessment courses will be evaluated by the concerned faculty. The institute will facilitate the evaluation process. The faculty will provide necessary feedback to the students from time to time.

Whenever a paper in the third / fourth semesters is to be assessed by the university, the examination and evaluation will take place through the Examination Department of the University of Mumbai. The annexures enclosed provide necessary details regarding the different papers and the nature of the assessment. (Internal Assessment / University Examination)

Infrastructure

Campus

BRIMS campus is spread over 13.5 acres (55,000 m²) of land. The Institute is located among the industrial hub of Thane and enjoys a panoramic view of the railway network with the greenery and picturesque view of the beautiful Parsik hills.

Classrooms

The classrooms are designed in such a way that each and every classroom has ample space. Classrooms are air-conditioned and thoughtfully designed to provide better interaction between the students and the facilitators. All classrooms are equipped with modern teaching aids such as LCD projector and Overhead Projectors.

Library

The Library holds a rich collection of books, research reports, magazines, journals and periodicals. It is well stocked with 6960 books and subscribes to 62 national, 11 international journals and 11 newspapers. The faculty keeps in touch with the publishers and updates the collection on regular basis.

Computer Centre

The Institute has an excellent state of art computer centre with all the facilities to make learning an enjoyable and pleasant experience. It has sufficient capacity to accommodate 100 students at a time. Dedicated leased line provides uninterrupted Wireless Internet (WIFI) connectivity.
