Ureteral neoplasm

Ureteral neoplasm

A ureteral neoplasm is a type of tumor that can be primary, or associated with a metastasis from another site.cite journal |author=Shimoyama Y, Ohashi M, Hashiguchi N, "et al" |title=Gastric cancer recognized by metastasis to the ureter |journal=Gastric Cancer |volume=3 |issue=2 |pages=102–105 |year=2000 |month=September |pmid=11984719 |doi= |url=]

Treatment may involve removal of the kidney and ureter, or just the ureter.cite web |url=http://www.fccc.edu/cancer/types/genitourinary/ureteral.html |title=Ureteral Cancer |format= |work= |accessdate=]

Classification of cancers often is oriented around the embryological origin of the tissue. In some contexts, the primary division is at the border of kidney and ureter, and in other contexts, the primary division is between derivatives of the metanephric blastema and those of the ureteric bud. Because of this, neoplasia of the ureters are sometimes grouped with tumors of the renal pelvis.cite web |url=http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/pdq/treatment/transitionalcell/patient/ |title=Transitional Cell Cancer (Kidney/Ureter) Treatment - National Cancer Institute |format= |work= |accessdate=] cite web |url=http://www.merck.com/mmhe/sec11/ch151/ch151c.html |title=Renal Pelvis and Ureter Cancer: Cancers of the Kidney and Urinary Tract: Merck Manual Home Edition |format= |work= |accessdate=]
