Ahmed Soliman is a veteran print and television journalist and commentator. As one of the few who can speak as an American, Muslim, Arab, and nationally televised journalist, Soliman offers a unique and essential perspective of the post 9/11 world. Currently, Soliman’s weekly column appears every Thursday in
The Record (Bergen County) " (a large daily newspaper in New Jersey) and has recently been picked up for syndication as well. His commentary has been published internationally by "Al-Ahram Weekly " in Cairo and the Mideast Online, based in London.Prior to becoming a newspaper columnist and international lecturer, Soliman recently served for two years as the Senior Anchor and Producer for the daily world news on Bridges TV, nationally televised on Verizon FiOS and various cable markets across the United States and on DISH Network. Soliman has also appeared in a number of television and radio interviews, including National Public Radio, the CBS affiliates in New York and Buffalo, local AM radio in Chicago, and CTV television news in Maryland.
Soliman has been invited to speak at various conferences, including the recent international peace conference in Mumbai, India (sponsored by the United Nations Global Compact) where he spoke on the topic of combating extremism using the media.
In the days and months following the 9/11 attacks, Soliman produced and directed a post-911 documentary for a PBS affiliate titled Born in the USA: Muslim Americans. The film followed a Muslim American doctor and teacher, and received positive reviews and press from WCBS – TV in New York, The Star Ledger Newspaper in New Jersey, and The Home News Tribune. The film can be found in public and university libraries across the country.
Prior to the 9/11 attack, Soliman started his career as the Managing Editor of the "Gazette-Leader", a weekly newspaper for the towns of Elizabeth and Hillside in New Jersey, where he increased the circulation by 17% over the course of one year. While at the "Gazette-Leader", Soliman covered crime, education, and government related stories.
Soliman received his Bachelors Degree in Communications at the
New Jersey Institute of Technology , where he studied under his teacher, advisor and King Features syndicated columnist Roger Hernandez. Before graduating from NJIT, Soliman worked on the film "Boys to Men?" with Oscar nominated filmmaker Frederick Marx and interned at WNBC-TV in New York.Soliman is the recipient of a writing award from the New Jersey Press Association, and has traveled abroad extensively, having visited such countries as Egypt, India, Greece, Romania, Canada, and Mexico. In his free time, Soliman is currently pursuing his Juris Doctorate degree in International Law from the
Rutgers School of Law - Newark in New Jersey, and lives with his wife, Aya.
