Teatralnaya ( _ru. Театральная) is a station on the
Zamoskvoretskaya Line of theMoscow Metro , named for the nearbyTeatralnaya Square , the location of theBolshoi Theatre . Opened in1938 , the station has fluted pylons faced withlabradorite and whitemarble said to be taken from theCathedral of Christ the Saviour before its demolition. The ceiling is decorated withmajolica bas-reliefs by N.Ya. Danko . A bust ofYakov Sverdlov , for whom the station was originally named, was located at the end of the platform opposite the escalators. From this station it is possible to transfer to
Okhotniy Ryad on theSokolnicheskaya Line andPloshchad Revolyutsii on theArbatsko-Pokrovskaya Line .External links
