Hiroshima , and began his conducting studies withHideo Saito of theToho Gakuen School of Music . In 1978, he was invited bySeiji Ozawa to spend the summer studying at theTanglewood Music Center . Erie Philharmonic from 1991 to 1995 and associate conductor of theBuffalo Philharmonic Orchestra . From 1995 to 2002 he was the ninth music director of theMinnesota Orchestra , a position he relinquished toOsmo Vänskä in 2003.Oue served as Music Director of the
Grand Teton Music Festival inWyoming . In addition to his directorship of this festival, his summer engagements have included appearances at theRavinia ,Tanglewood , Grand Park,Wolf Trap , Great Woods,Round Top andMidland music festivals.Following a tour in 1997 with the NDR Philharmonie Hannover, Eiji Oue was subsequently appointed its principal conductor in September 1998. In 2003, he was appointed principal conductor of the
Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra and is the music director of theOrquestra Simfònica de Barcelona since September 2006.Oue made his debut at the
Bayreuth Festival conductingTristan and Isolde (2005). Further conducting engagements included theLeipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra ,Gulbenkian Orchestra ,São Paulo State Symphony , andMalaysian Philharmonic Orchestra . In the 2006-2007 season, he recordedNiccolò Paganini ’s "Violin Concerto No. 1" andLouis Spohr ’s "Violin Concerto No. 8" with theSwedish Radio Symphony Orchestra andHilary Hahn forDeutsche Grammophon .References
