United Nations funding

United Nations funding is an issue that has often been of concern to the organization due to many of its members unwillingness or inability to pay their assessments. Chapter IV of the United Nations Charter provides that the organization's expenses are to be borne by its members. However, the U.S. has sometimes withheld its dues, in order to force reforms. The Charter provides that a member that falls two years behind in its dues will lose its vote in the UN General Assembly, however, and so far the U.S. has never let its dues fall so far behind that this provision would apply.
