In
paleontology , a Zombie taxon (plural "Zombie taxa") or the Zombie effect [Citation | last = Archibald | first = David | title = Zombie Origins | journal =New Scientist | volume = 2596 | pages = 27 | date = 2007-03-24| url=http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg19325961.300-zombie-origins.html|accessdate=2008-07-17 ] is a colloqialism ofLazarus taxon because the species in question has been misinterpreted as having existed after its presumedextinction . It is actually belonging to or descended from the original, older taxon, but the fossil records for its discovery were subject to further scrutiny. This basic error in the interpretation of the age of the fossil leads to its title. [cite book |title= The Dinosauria |last=Weishampel |first=David B. |authorlink=David B.
