- Payne Hall (UGA)
Payne Hall is a co-ed dormitory at the
University of Georgia inAthens, Georgia . Payne Hall is part of the Reed community which consists of Reed Hall, Morris Hall, and Payne Hall. Payne and Reed halls are located on Hooper Street adjacent to Milledge Hall and Sanford Stadium while Morris Hall is on Lumpkin Street.Student Life
Payne Hall is home to almost 200 students and is open year round and on hollidays. Payne consists of three floors of single and double occupancy dorm rooms which range in size and shape, the most common being about 10'x 13'. respectively. On either end of each floor is a community bath. Payne hall also has a basement which houses a kitchen, a private restroom, the Laundry room, and an activities room with a television and seating for about fifteen.
Possibly the greatest advantage of residing in Payne Hall is its location. Located near the Student Learning Center,Downtown (Athens) ,Sanford Stadium , the Law and Business classrooms, psychology-journalism, Le Conte Hall, the Tate Center, North Campus, and Milledge which provides free tutoring in math, english, and a variety of other subjects.
Payne Hall is among the oldest active dormitories on campus established in 1940, there has been some talk of renovation. [http://www.uga.edu/columns/012797/focus.html] Currently, however, Payne uses window style air-conditioning and has smaller dorm rooms. Payne Hall does, however, offer some of the most inexpensive housing on campus costing $1,913 per person for a Double, Community Bath and $2,218 for a Single, Community Bath per semester. Payne Hall council, along with Morris and Reed, often hosts student activities such as festivals and cookouts.
Payne Hall also has a full time custodial staff which keeps hallways and bathrooms neat. It is also common in double occupancy rooms for each person to loft the beds while using the vacant area below for seating and entertainment areas, students also commonly place carpet inside the rooms. Payne Hall also has convinient parking, with parking lots located directly outside the dormitory and across the street, however, it is required to move them during football games.Key Rules and Regulations
Alcoholic Beverages
Residents oflegal drinking age may consume alcoholic beverages in the privacy of their room or apartment unit; no alcoholic beverages may be consumed in any other areas of any residence hall. No open containers of alcoholic beverages are permitted outside of individual residence hall rooms or apartment unit. No student shall furnish, or cause to be furnished, any alcoholic beverage to any person under the legal drinking age.
Smoking
Smoking is prohibited within all UGA Residence Halls. In addition, the burning of candles, incense, or other materials is not permitted. Each room is equipped with a smoke detector for safety purposes, and each hall has several fire alarm pull stations and fire extinguishers in case of emergency.
Visitation

Built in 1939 Payne Hall is one of the oldest active dormitories on the UGA campus, for almost seventy years, however, recent reports say that UGA housing and renevation plans to possibly build another dorm room and renovate payne hall for academic purposes because "the rooms are to small for student needs." The plan includes the renovation of Mary Lyndon Hall and the renovation and expansion of Rutherford Hall. The entire building and renovation project for the dorms is scheduled to be completed by August 2008, UGA housing officials have said, but the project is still in the preliminary stages: The
