The James Brown Statue stands on a 2' pedestal in a plaza in the middle of Broad Street across the street from the Augusta Commons.

History

On December 25, 2006, R&B star/ Augusta native James Brown died [1] . In early 2007, a statue was erected in his honor [2] . Later in 2007, the Augusta Commission voted to put the statue on a pedestal [2] . To this day, that is how the statue remains today.

James Brown Plaza History

The plaza was built before the statue. Prior to the installation of the statue, the plaza had no name. The commission chose the area for its nearness to the center of town.
