Notable_instruments =Emarosa is a six-member
post-hardcore band fromLexington, Kentucky , formed in 2006. Emarosa was originally known as "Corsets Are Cages", but changed their name shortly before their first EP, "This Is Your Way Out ", released in 2007.History
Emarosa initially formed as a four piece post-hardcore band called Corsets Are Cages, and recorded three songs during this time (most notably "Utah, But I’m Taller"), however when the band lost two members and gained four new ones (including another vocalist, Chris Roetter) it was decided that it was time to start afresh with a new name: Emarosa. With Chris Roberts and Mike Bryant the only founding members left, the band was signed to Standby Records to record their 7 track EP "This Is Your Way Out". It was released on
May 8 2007 , through Thriving Records because Standby Records had no distribution at the time. The EP could be compared toChiodos ,Underoath andSaosin ,cite web | author=SmartPunk.com| Year=2007 | title=Emarosa-This Is Your Way Out | url=http://www.smartpunk.com/product.php?item_id=20874 | accessdate=July 10 | accessyear=2008] and selling over 4,600 copies digitally alone. Standby Records founder/owner (at the time), Nick Moore sold Emarosa's contract for the amount of $1,300 to
Rise Records alongside bands such asDrop Dead, Gorgeous ,Before Their Eyes , The Devil Wears Prada, and Catherine and set to work on a new album. Chris Roetter decided to leave the band in late 2007 and the band was left without a lead vocalist. Thriving Records later dropped the EP back to Standby Records because of problems they were having with Standby Records owner Nick Moore.Around this time, Jonny Craig from
Dance Gavin Dance quit Dance Gavin Dance due to extreme tensions and personal conflicts. Jonny Craig was the frontman forA Skylit Drive in November 2007 when he quit "Dance Gavin Dance", for about a week though Jordan (former ASD lead singer), was sick during those shows. Jordan quit during the same week of November in which Jonny Craig joined Emarosa. Rumors spread that Jonny Craig was leaning to joinA Skylit Drive but his recent contract with Rise Records would not allow him to sign with another label. These rumors have not been confirmed true by Emarosa.On
January 26 ,2008 , Emarosa posted their first official song with Jonny Craig titled, "New Demo" (now known to be "Set It Off Like Napalm"). Two weeks later, the demo of "PretendReleaseTheClose" was put on their player. OnMay 3 ,2008 , three new post-production songs were added to the MySpace player and the name of the album,Relativity , was revealed. The album was released onJuly 8 ,2008 , and received high praise from critics and fans alike. OnJuly 20 ,2008 , Emarosa became the first Rise Records band to ever reach theBillboard Hot 200 solely through Rise Records.The Devil Wears Prada released their album on August 2007 both with Rise Records and Ferret Records, and reached theBillboard Hot 200 with both of those labels (now signed to Ferret Records).
