A by-election is expected to be held in Dublin South in 2008, following the death of the Teachta Dála (TD) Séamus Brennan on 9 July 2008. As Brennan was a Fianna Fáil member, that party had the responsibility of deciding when the by-election should take place. It is expected to take place later in 2008. There is no legal requirement on when to hold a by-election in Ireland but it is generally held within six months. [cite news
