Rugby league hooliganism

Rugby league hooliganism covers hooliganism among fans in the sport of rugby league in the United Kingdom (UK).

As football hooliganism became rife in the UK, the Rugby league authorities came up with the slogan "Rugby League: A Man's Game For All The Family" in a bid to entice disenchanted football fans.Fact|date=October 2008 While rugby league has not suffered the same problems of large-scale organised violence, the slogan did have a hollow ring when sporadic outbreaks occurred at its matches. Rugby league enjoys a reputation of being a game that all the family can come and watch in safety. Yet from the late 1970s and throughout the 1980s off the field violence occurred at and around matches, and has since been on the increase.
