Emporio, Greece

Emporio ( _el. Εμπόριο, _bg. Емборе, Embore) is the capital of the Mouriki municipality in the Kozani Prefecture, Greece. Population 1003 (2001).

History

According to Ottoman document from 1626-1627, there were 71 christian households in the village in the first half of the 17th century. [Турски извори за българската история, т. VII, София 1986, с. 333 ] .

There were three Bulgarian schools in Emporio in the beginning of 20th century. [D.M.Brancoff. "La Macedoine et sa Population Chretienne". Paris, 1905, p.178-179.]

In 1913, after Balkan Wars with the conditions of the Treaty of Bucharest this part of Macedonia became part of Greece. Local Bulgarians were forced to become Greeks and were oppressed by Greek andartes.
