"The Band Wagon" is a musical revue with book by George S. Kaufman and Howard Dietz, lyrics by Howard Dietz and music by Arthur Schwartz. The show was staged by Hassard Short. Produced by Max Gordon, the Broadway production, opened on June 3, 1931 at the New Amsterdam Theatre and ran for a total of 260 performances. The cast included Fred Astaire, Adele Astaire, Helen Broderick, Tillie Losch, and Frank Morgan.

Considered by some to be the best of the Schwartz and Dietz shows, this show had glamour, beauty, charm, gaiety, and satire. Although it had incomparable dancing by Fred and Adele Astaire, it would be the last time the brother and sister team would appear together. The show also has the greatest Schwartz song, “Dancing in the Dark,” which was the title of one of the two motion pictures made from this show. The other, of course, was “The Band Wagon.” It was the first Broadway show to use the revolving stage; in fact, it had two.
