Brady, Jr. andDwight Deere Wiman , in association withTom Weatherly , the Broadway production, opened onApril 30 ,1929 at theMusic Box Theatre for a total of 321 performances. The cast includedFred Allen ,Libby Holman ,John McCauley ,Romney Brent , andClifton Webb .The show grew out of an informal Sunday evening entertainment and was made into a full blown revue. Fred Allen, who had been a vaudeville juggler and ventriloquist stopped the show each night with his dead-pan monologues. Romney Brent became a sophisticated comedian. Clifton Webb gave a debonair and suave performance of “
I Guess I'll Have to Change My Plan ," which was used again in "The Band Wagon ." Libby Holman finally came into her own as a torch singer.George S. Kaufman contributed one of the sketches.ongs
