Joshua Lamar Gaines (born September 27, 1985 in Fort Wayne, Indiana) is a collegiate American football player. Collegiate career

2005 season

Gaines was a redshirt freshman in 2005. He was the backup behind future Kansas City Chief Tamba Hali. 2006 season

Gaines moved into the starting rotation during the Ohio State game and has been a starter ever since. Gaines had 25 tackles, two quarterback sacks and broke up two passes.

2007 season

In 2007 Gaines started 12 games at defensive end for Penn State. He helped lead the defense to a number two ranking in quarterback sacks and a seventh ranking in total defense. Gaines had 40 tackles and 2.5 sacks.

Personal

Gaines is one of 11 children: When he was six years old his mother and stepfather adopted six children from an underprivileged home in their hometown of Fort Wayne, Indiana. In addition to James' biological daughter, LaShonda, and Wilma's two other biological children, Ebony and LaToya, the Holders also cared for a cousin, Kevin, who is autistic.
