Shambhala Publications is an independent
publishing company based inBoston, Massachusetts . According to the company, it specializes in "books that present creative and conscious ways of transforming the individual, the society, and the planet". Many of its books deal withBuddhism or related topics. It is named forShambhala , a mystical kingdom hidden somewhere beyond the snowpeaks of theHimalayas in theTibetan Buddhist tradition. Among its major authors areChögyam Trungpa ,Thomas Cleary ,Ken Wilber ,Fritjof Capra ,Pema Chödrön , John Stevens, andNatalie Goldberg . Other authors includeAlbert Low andDennis Lewis .Shambhala was founded in
1969 by Sam Bercholz [Midal (2005) p. 475] and Michael Fagan, inBerkeley, California . Its books are distributed byRandom House . In1976 Shambhala moved toBoulder, Colorado to be near theNaropa Institute , and in 1986 moved to Boston.References
