Peter Busby Waite (born 1922) is a
Canadian historian , specializing in 19th century research and writing, although he has also published work dealing with more modern times in Canada. Popularly known as P.B. Waite, he served for many years asprofessor of history atDalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and was the "Thomas McCulloch Professor of History" there. He is currently aprofessor emeritus . His "Arduous Destiny", a history of Canada from 1874 to 1896, was part ofThe Canadian Centenary Series , a multi-volume project which was commissioned for the centenary of CanadianConfederation in 1967. His thorough 1985 biography of former Canadian prime minister SirJohn Thompson (politician) , some ten years in the making, remains the fundamental resource on that topic.Peter Busby Waite's main works include:
