Mason Lamont Capwell was a fictional character on the American soap opera "Santa Barbara". He was first portrayed by American actor Lane Davies from July 30 1984 to July 19 1989. The second actor to play the role was Terry Lester, from September 27 1989 to October 31 1990. The final actor to play the role was Gordon Thomson, from October 31 1990 to the show's end on January 15 1993.

Character History

Always cinical and less appreciated by his own father, Mason Capwell was the oldest son of the rich businessman C.C. Capwell and his ex-wife Pamela Conrad. Mason never got along with his father, having always worked against him either by helping Santana Andrade find out the truth about her son, plotting with Gina DeMott or by refusing to work at his father's company. Mason finally changed when he met Mary Duvall, a woman that made a new person out of him. Mason had finally shown his compassionate side, but his love for Mary didn't last long when on a tragic night, Mary was killed by the letter "C" from the Capwell hotel sign.

Mason started drinking and eventually left town, only to return back soon with a new love, Lily Light, who turned out to be Gina DeMott's daughter. Their affair didn't last for long. Mason was then approached by Julia Wainwright, a woman disappointed in love, who only wanted him to be the father of her child. They signed a contract, but soon fell in love with each other. Their love was immediately sidetracked by the fact that Mason married Victoria Lane when he found out that she carried Cruz Castillo's child. Mason and Tori didn't last for long because Mason and Julia had become more attached to each other, especially after Julia had given birth to their child, Samantha. Mason was pleasantly surprised when he learned that his mother Pamela was alive, and he finally had a family again when he found out he had another half-brother. Things started to get complicated again when Mark McCormick's bones were found in the Capwell boathouse, and Mason was one of the primary suspects because he was in love with Mark's wife Mary. Mason decided to find out who murdered Mark on his own, and with the help of Father Michael Donnelly, he learned it was Sister Agatha. At the time, Mason was involved in an explosion that caused his personality to duplicate.

Mason had become Sonny Sprocket, a Las Vegas singer and dancer. Gina found out about Sonny and then married him for his money, and also convincing him to act like Mason. Gina's plan was working out fine until their wedding day, when Sonny was shot and Mason came back. Mason came back and finally married Julia, but their marriage wasn't going okay because Mason had continued drinking. He had an affair with Sasha Schmidt, and then divorced Julia.

Mason then fell in love with Cassandra Benedict, a woman that had learned that she was Minx Lockridge's daughter and therefore had to stop her relationship with Warren Lockridge. Mason eventually saved her, but they didn't continue their relationship. Mason had realized that there was only one person that he truly loved, and that was Julia. Mason and Julia got married again, and after a bit of trouble with living at the Ballymoor mansion, Mason and Julia had decided to have a baby together. They thought they couldn't have children anymore, so they found a girl that wanted to let them adopt. Eventually, Julia had learned that she was pregnant.
