LAMBDA School of Music and Fine Arts is a Canadian school of music and fine arts. Located on the West Island in Pierrefonds, Montreal, it opened in June, 2008 and offers courses in music, graphic arts, theatre and dance. The name was chosen as an acronym for the interdisciplinary focus of the school on Learning of the Arts through the Mind and Body through the Discovery of Aesthetics. To encourage interaction with artists of the highest calibre, LAMBDA hosts a panel of artists in residence, who are concert performers and artists of international stature. Lambda also collaborates with a team of academic and educational advisors to ensure that faculty members and students are constantly inspired.

Lambda is a new school of music and fine arts located in the West Island of Montreal. We are located in a brand new facility of 13000 square feet, with a brand new private parking lot. The Lambda building consists of a concert hall annexed to a professionally equipped recording studio, a parents and faculty lounge, day care services, group piano, strings ensemble and choir classrooms, a 1600 square feet dance / theatre hall, and numerous individual instruction rooms.

Lambda Mission Statement

Lambda School of Music and Fine Arts is dedicated to helping learners of all cultural, ethnic, social, and language backgrounds fulfill their potential for creative artistic expression. While its main focus is developing artistic potential in the young, Lambda also involves local communities through specially developed programs, for learners of all ages, with emphasis on parent-child communication through discussions of the arts.

Lambda is founded on four main principles

* Everyone has artistic potential. The School recognizes that everyone has the capacity to express him- or herself artistically,in some particular domain.
* Differences among people must be respected . The School recognizes that individuals differ widely from one another in their artistic potential. These differences exist because artistic potential involves many elements, and each element has its own time course of development. Differences also exist because people have their unique personal histories, personality and temperament. A person can also appear to differ in his or her artistic potential from one moment to the next because of the different ways artistic potential can unfold over time as a person develops.
* Helping people achieve their artistic potential is desirable in its own right . The School recognizes that, regardless of people’s life goals, it is normal, healthy, and highly desirable for everyone to develop his or her artistic potential to the highest possible level.
* Forms of artistic expression exist in rich historical and cultural contexts. No form of artistic expression exists in a vacuum. Each lives in a historical and cultural context and has important connections to other forms of artistic expression and to developments in science and technology. The School is strongly committed to exposing students to the full richness of these connections through separate programs designed for that purpose.

Lambda is committed to delivering the highest quality education in its different programs of artistic expression. These programs include instrumental, voice, dance, visual, theatre and technology-based art forms developed in an interdisciplinary context. The School is also committed to providing enrichment programs that include aspects of science and technology in order to give learners the broadest possible education in the arts. All instruction is based on the principles listed earlier.

The School believes that a strong sense of community among its teachers is essential for success in developing the artistic potential of the students. This sense of community is achieved by respecting teachers' own domains of expertise, by encouraging teachers to experiment and innovate in their approaches to learning, by promoting cross-disciplinary collaboration among teachers to provide new opportunities for their students, and by recognizing that the school community as a whole will always be in a state of dynamic evolution.

The School values a spirit of inquiry and discovery in the work it does. One way the School promotes this spirit is by opening its doors to on-site research by members of the scholarly community.

Finally, the School is committed to making a positive contribution to the local community. The School will create openings for learners from less represented and from disadvantaged communities. The School is also committed to bringing its students' achievements to the surrounding community for the benefit of all. This community action is a highly valued aspect of the work of the School.
